Welcome

Well, we just got back from a big mini-vacation in Orlando while competing at
Universal Studios for Animal Planet's new Superstar Challenge Aqua Launch.

We are proud to say that 5 of the 6 dogs either Trained or Trained and
Produced at Chesagrove made the Finals for this Event. In Show one "Hank" a
chessy we produced 9 years ago Oct. 3rd, handled by owner Maria Nelson, made
fifth place and hadn't even practiced since January of this year. Our own
"Ruger" an 8 yr. old boykin spaniel handled by our friend, John Waldron, came
in fourth place in that same round so they made the finals to compete later
in the day.

Then in the second show "Budrow" a choc. lab who we trained about a year ago
and then came back for a week and a half refresher for dock launching came in
first place to win $500.00  and a collar with a medallion with his owner Alan
Fisk and our own "Missy" the celebrity chessy (Hank's sister) handled by
Shirl DeVore who will also be nine Oct 3rd came in second place to get
$250.00 with a collar and medallion and advance to finals.

And then in the third show "Lefty" a chessy handled by Ralph Artigliere and
we also produced and previously trained came in tied for second place and had
a run-off right away only to tie again and have another run-off right away to
come in third place for $100.00 and a collar with a medallion. All went on to
the final round.
There were originally 30 dogs in competition. 10 dogs in each show of three
shows. Five were eliminated and five from each show went on to the finals
later on in the same day. It was a very long day for all the dogs. Very
interesting as well with true production, audience, and studios. The pool was
3 1/2 feet deep, 21 feet wide, 41 feet long. The one problem is everything
including the 40 feet long stage was all the same color blue. The dogs really
couldn't see where the difference was in the end of the ramp/stage/dock and
where the water began. So, all dogs that we know did not do as long a jump as
normal. Also, we noticed that the water wasn't draining as the Astroturf
became filled up with water. They had to vacuum the water off the turf from
time to time. Each dog got one jump for practice and then two jumps for real
Judging. There were two Judges which I felt were good and did a good job.
They video reviewed (like instant replay the jumps before making the final
decision on the amount of jump the dog actually performed.

They were supposed to break for dinner after the first three shows but
didn't. Instead, they went on to do finals in which the third show did not
get much of a rest especially "Lefty" who had a run-off with another dog not
once but twice just before the final event competition.

The fifteen dogs in the finals had two jumps and that was it by rotating the
dogs in a certain order.  "Missy" came in fifth place and "Budrow" came in
fourth. So two Chesagrove dogs did place in the finals. No one from the third
show even placed in the finals. Those dogs didn't get a chance to rest.

There were also rules that were broken. No aggressive dogs were allowed but
there was one incident due to a dog that was at a previous event and some
people already knew about him being a problem.  I will never know why people
bring dogs with that type of personality to an event like this and then let
their dog off-lead, etc. when they know better.  The dog should have been
disqualified but wasn't. He went after several other dogs during the course
of the day. I steered clear of the dog all day since I knew ahead of time
what he was like from a heads-up told to me on Friday at the Holiday Inn.

Even though there were problems, all in all it was a huge success and we look
forward to seeing some Chesagrove Dogs on Television once again. We can't
wait.

Ch Chesagrove's Autumn Mist being considered for AKC (ACE) Award!

"I went to the Post Office today, July 2nd, and there was a large envelope from the American Kennel Club in it."

"I opened the envelope and there was a very nice letter from them explaining12missy.jpg (20580 bytes) that "Missy", Ch Chesagrove's Autumn Mist CGC a home-bred Chesapeake Bay Retriever, has been chosen to be amongst the dogs being considered for nomination in the year 2000 American Kennel Club Awards for Canine Excellence (ACE). The AKC salutes dogs across the country whether they serve as search and rescue dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs or family pets. If Missy is chosen to be one of those dogs we will hear some time in September after the AKC makes their decision."

Just for being considered, "Missy" received a certificate of honor today as:
a nominee in the year 2000 for The American Kennel Club's ACE Awards

We just did The Incredible Dog Challenge last weekend and my 7 1/2 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever - Ch Chesagrove's Autumn Mist, CGC won the Diving Dog again this year. She now holds the World Record with 21 feet 9 inches. There are several TV programs she will be on plus Phil won the Silver and Gold medal in the Swim Race with his two 10 year old Labrador Retrievers, "Jasper" won the bronze and "Tucker" won the Silver. Jasper is about to Sire a litter out of Skittles. You should see the picture of "Missy" leaping through the air into the pond. "Missy" will be going to Gray Summit, Mo. to Purina Farms to compete in the National Finals on September 9, 2000. Last year she won the bronze at the National Finals. Her nephew who I also produced took the bronze in the Diving Dog and her other nephew, who I also produced, won the Swim Race.

Between the dogs we own and dogs we produced we clenched 5 out of 6 medals on January 8, 2000.
